MILSPEC: 660% Greater Protection

There is a common misconception that all Ballistic eyewear is the same. However, eyewear can be labeled “Ballistic” if it can stop a .25 caliber steel ball at 150 feet per second (the ANSI Z87.1 standard) even though it would not stop a standard projectile from a Red Ryder BB gun. The ANSI Z87.1 standard was developed to protect workers, and the ballistic specifications are minimal. To ensure that your eyes are protected in an uncontrolled environment, such as a battlefield, the minimum ballistic standard is not good enough. Smith Optics ONLY uses the standard that has been adopted by the military for its optics specifications. Smith Optics uses MilSpec (Military Specification), which is much harder to achieve that the ANSI Z87.1 standard, but the only standard that will safely protect your eyes. Science of Fog in Ballistic Eyewear

No lens can be 100% “fog-proof”, because if the lens temperature and the humidity inside the goggle reach a certain level, fog is inevitable. Therefore, “fog-mitigation” is the needed focus. Smith Optics eyewear keeps fog off the lens for as long as possible under a wide range of humidity and temperature conditions, thus creating as much time as possible for “fog-free” usage. The technology is three-pronged; anti-fog lense coating, airflow, and quick release features. Smith Elite has proprietary anti-Fog capability that is the best product in the market. The coating adheres to the lens and does not affect the ballistic or optical capabilities. The technology of airflow exists passively and actively, via vents, and a silent fan. Finally, and importantly, the goggles are designed to be taken off easily, and retained, if the goggles do fog.

Highest Technology Optics

Smith Optics has designed the lens on its protective eyewear to counter the Prism Effect, which distorts the accuracy of vision. The eyewear utilizes precise geometry to negate the prism effect so that the user maintains an accurate picture of what’s in front of them. By using “Tapered Lens Technology”, which is a tapered lens cut from the optical center of the lens to the outer edges, the lens eliminates the Prism Effect, and mitigates eyestrain.
